Transport

The ability to provide an ethical, sustainable, full transport and logistics redistribution solution for residual stock is fundamental to the success and the scale of our operation.

The WRAP (the Waste Action Resource Project) Industry Working Group identified transport costs to companies as being the biggest single barrier to food redistribution in the UK. Our capacity to overcome this barrier coupled with our integrity, consistency, and transparency in distribution, means we are a trusted redistribution partner to a highly esteemed portfolio of major retailers and manufacturers in the UK.

His Church boast an extensive fleet of vehicles from vans to articulated lorries, with multiple curtain-sided, rigid and temperature-controlled trailers, therefore, we can allocate the appropriate vehicle for any size of donation and can transport all categories of food (ambient, fresh, chilled and frozen).

Our 50,000 Sq. Ft Operations and Logistics Centre “Hangar 3” based at the Former RAF Binbrook site in Lincolnshire, 3 is accessible for any size vehicle, and we can efficiently unload deliveries in our yard by forklift or on our loading bay. Our single site model allows partners to deliver to one point, rather than having to make multiple deliveries around the country.

Pioneering DEFRA Funded Project in partnership with WRAP

His Church works closely with Retailers, Manufacturers and other Charities to provide solutions for “hard to reach” surplus food, this includes food items that have additional barriers to redistribution because of factors such as labelling, time limitations, transport etc.

In 2022, His Church launched a pioneering project received £549,095 in UK funding under the Resource Action Fund, provided by DEFRA and administered by WRAP, which has funded the purchase of a 105-pallet capacity drive in freezer, an 11-pallet capacity blast freezer, an automated labelling machine, a forklift, a variety of pallet trucks and three temperature-controlled vehicles, a 26-tonne truck, a trailer and a 7.5- tonne truck.

This project increases our ability to redistribute surplus food in three main ways:

Air Blast Freezing Chilled Food

Meaning food with a "use by" date can be frozen quickly and safely and can be redistributed as frozen food.

Labelling & Re-labelling Ambient Food

Meaning unlabelled food and food with missing ingredients can be correctly labelled and redistributed

Increasing Capacity & Efficiency

Meaning greater volumes of ambient, chilled and frozen food capacity due to the new equipment and infrastructure

Rebranding Clothing

As well as redistributing a huge range of clothing including casual wear, formal wear, sportswear and children’s clothing including school uniform, His Church have been providing de-branding and rebranding solutions for counterfeit clothing since 2010. It’s estimated that since Trading Standards Organisations and the Police began trusting His Church to remove all traces of the legitimate brand holder’s trademarks and rebrand with our own Charity Logo, His Church has redistributed over £50 million (street value) worth of counterfeit designer clothing.

In the same way we remove all traces of brand holders trademarks on counterfeit clothing, we also remove all traces of surplus corporate branded clothing and genuine surplus designer clothing, meaning we can ensure that no good quality new clothing is disposed of, rather than clothing people who are in need.

Social Responsibility

His Church are privileged to partner with a first-class portfolio of ethical businesses who are committed to their responsibilities to act in the best interest of their society and environment.

Our redistribution solutions help all our partners to achieve two important goals, namely the reduction of waste, which is a major contributor to climate change, and supporting the most vulnerable members of our their local and wider communities.

His Church also helps partners to deliver specific CSR projects, utilising our transport and logistics infrastructure and network of over 3,000 Charities.

For example, having researched and found that 1 in 7 children in the UK do not eat breakfast through poverty, Kellogg’s generously pledged 15 million servings of cereal to children who were sadly going without a healthy nutritious start to the day.

Football Club Partners

His Church worked with our Football Club Partners and put on events at football grounds throughout the country, inviting children from areas of high deprivation to attend. At the events children would take part in sports and activities, learn about nutrition, tour the stadium, meet the mascot and maybe some of the players subject to their availability.

At the same time the schools collected cereal for their breakfast clubs in the cars and minibuses they had come in, meaning logistically it was tremendously efficient, reducing the potential carbon footprint of the project. The involvement of the football club made the project very exciting for the children and made the breakfast club the place to be! We called the project “Team Up To Be Champions School Breakfast For Winners” which formed part of Kellogg’s “Breakfast For Better Days” initiative.
