Football Club Partnerships

Food distributions

His Church and Football Clubs partner together to feed vulnerable members of the community in many ways. This can involve our Football club partners feeding the community directly or working with us to support a local feeding infrastructure. Three notable examples below:

Team Up to be Champions, School Breakfasts For Winners

His Church distributed 15 million servings of Kellogg’s Breakfast Cereal in 18 months in partnership with 37 Premier League and EFL Clubs.

Wolves Foundation

In 2022, His Church distributed over 80,000 meals through 25 Wolverhampton-based charitable organisations in support of Wolves Foundations fantastic Feed Our Pack initiative

Arsenal FC

In partnership with Arsenal FC, Arsenal in the Community and Arsenal Foundation alone His Church distributed over 500,000 meals during the Coronavirus pandemic through the Covid support outreaches of Islington, Camden and Hackney Councils

Shirt distributions

At the end of every football season, or when a football club changes kit manufactures, there is invariably a volume of surplus football and training kit which becomes obsolete in terms of the club’s use.  The responsibility of finding good homes for this kit generally falls to the club’s foundation or community trust. The kit manufacturer will often place restrictions on where this kit can be distributed and it is common for the manufacturer to state that these distributions must take place outside the UK.

His Church supports a number of overseas projects and initiatives, meaning we can send kit to support a number of excellent causes worldwide. We distribute these kits in conjunction with a variety of partners, ranging from the Liberian Government to the British Army. These distributions always bring hope and joy as well as removing barriers to participate in sport through not having the appropriate kit.

To thank our football club partners for donating and to demonstrate they are being put to wonderful use, we take photos or ask for photos to be taken of these distributions.

Food Banks

According to the Food Foundation, over 9.7 million adults and over 4 million children are currently experiencing food insecurity in the UK.

Responding to this need there are more than 2,500 foodbanks in the UK providing emergency support to people experiencing times of crisis.

There are many types of food banks but generally food banks will provide emergency food parcels or hampers as well as additional support to “service users” such as debt advice, mental health support, benefits guidance etc.

His Church support foodbanks with nutritionally balanced consignments of food either on a mixed pallet or on a number of pallets depending on the size of the foodbank.

Trussell Trust Logo

Trussell Trust

Over half of all foodbanks in the UK are Trussell Trust foodbanks, the model for these foodbanks is that non-perishable, in-date food is donated by the public at a range of places, such as schools, churches, and businesses, as well as supermarket collection points. It is then sorted into emergency food parcels by more than 28,000 volunteers, to be given to people in crisis.

Due to the cost-of-living crisis, not only have public donations of food diminished but the number of referrals has increased. Milton Keynes Foodbank supports over 5,000 families a year, in May 2022 Food Bank Manager, Louisa Hobbs reported 35 new families a week were being referred and there was only enough food being donated by the public to meet two thirds of the referrals.

His Church in partnership with MK food Reach have since provided over 100,000 meals to help keep the food bank well stocked and meet that shortfall.

The Well Logo

The Well

The Well is an independent Christian foodbank, based in Wolverhampton.

Since the project started in 2006, they have delivered food and toiletry parcels to over 100,000 people.

For some people, although they are in dire need of help, actually walking into a foodbank and asking can be incredibly difficult, The Well overcome this potential barrier to getting support by delivering food parcels to over 120 homes each week. The Well was founded by Gary and Caroline Price

Community Pantries

Community Pantries or Social Supermarkets fill an important gap between people who need support from a foodbank and those who have the means to shop in a supermarket.

Sadly, more and more families are finding it harder to make ends meet due to the cost-of-living crisis, despite being in work. These families are not entitled to benefits but having paid their bills do not have enough money left to buy sufficient food to adequately feed their family.

Community Pantries can be a lifeline for these families, generally a Community Pantry will have a means tested membership and will provide a shopping experience where families can choose a number of items of food each week. There is a cost to Community Pantry members, but this is a fraction of the retail cost of the food and supplies.

Families who shop in a Community Pantry retain the emotional benefit of being able to buy food and supplies.

Community Pantries are increasingly becoming neighbourhood hubs which strengthen communities by fostering friendships and being places where help such a health advice and debt counselling can be accessed by members.

PANTRIES WE SUPPORT

Everton in the Community’s “The Blue Base Pantry”

This initiative follows on from Everton's Blue Family campaign, which supported over 29,000 individuals and families with urgent support during the COVID-19 pandemic. With the effects of the pandemic, alongside the rise in the cost of living continuing to take its toll on families, the Pantry aims to reduce food poverty by providing communities access to a wide range of top-quality food in return of a small subscription fee. The Pantry runs two sessions every Thursday at the Blue Base (Salop Street, L4 4BZ) - from 10am until 12pm and from 12pm until 1pm. Members will pay £3.50 per visit and in return will receive approximately £20 worth of goods. As well as having access to discounted food, wrap around services such as benefits, members have access to welfare guidance, housing support and a registered GP on site to answer any health enquiries.

The Blue Base Pantry has grown to the 4th largest pantry in the UK, there is a real community amongst members, which is fostered by the fantastic warm, friendly and passionate team at EiTC and the delight felt by the community that a club many of them have supported for years are supporting them through a difficult time.

“The food pallets we receive from His Church are amazing, the quality and nutritional blend mean we can offer members a wonderful variety of food each week, the substantial help that we can offer vulnerable families in the L4 area of Liverpool would not be possible without His Church’s support and partnership”

Adam Howard, Senior Programme Manager (Blue Family & neighbourhood Operations)

Your Local Pantry

Your Local Pantries are improving the everyday lives of over 90,000 people in over 80 neighbourhoods across the UK, softening the blow of high living costs and creating the conditions for communities to grow and thrive, by bringing people together around food.

Your Local Pantry’s values are Dignity, Choice and Hope

  • Dignity: Everyone deserves secure access to good food and everyone is greeted with compassion and respect.
  • Choice: Members always choose the food they want.
  • Hope: Pantries help to create financial wriggle-room for members to start building the better future they seek. By reducing weekly shopping bills, members can free up money to cover other bills, repay debt, or start pursuing their and their children’s dreams.

His Church supports over 20 “Your Local” Pantries from Glasgow to Portsmouth, by providing pallets of food and supplies. Our pallets support Your Local pantry’s core values by extending the range and quality of products that members can choose from, which in turn brings dignity and leads to hope.

Schools

His Church supports schools in a variety of ways ranging from providing cereal for school breakfast clubs to supporting with food provision for Schools running foodbanks and community pantries.

Schools have also actively participated in some of His Church’s humanitarian aid projects from raising funds to provide pallets for their local foodbank, to collecting items specifically needed for crisis relief projects.

His Church visit schools to share more about our work preventing waste, reducing the effect of climate change and helping vulnerable people, as well as hosting schools and demonstrating our work in action at our facilities in Lincolnshire.

FOUR OF THE SCHOOLS THAT WE'VE WORKED WITH

Derby Schools Breakfast Clubs

Since 2016, in partnership with Derby County FC Community Trust, Derby County Council and local Derby business Oberoi Consulting His Church have provided over 400,000 servings of breakfast cereal to children at risk of going without breakfast, supporting 19 school breakfast clubs in Derbyshire.

Ysgol Trefonnen Primary School Community Fridge

Ysgol Trefonnen Primary School opened Llandrindod Wells’ first ever Community Fridge in October 2022.  Community Fridge opens on Mondays and Wednesdays, and benefits the whole community by improving access to food. Local people connect with each other and learn new skills through activities such as cookery sessions and workshops on how to grow your own fruit and veg.

The Fridge receives donations from the local community and provides solutions for local food surplus but the recent rise in the cost of living has meant less donations and more people accessing the service so the pallet of food received from His Church gave supplies a much needed boost.

Cambourne Science & International Academy

Cambourne is the most deprived area in Cornwall and ranked in the top 2% of areas suffering food poverty in the UK.

The amazing students from Cambourne Science & International Academy raised money for their local foodbank and partnered with His Church making a kind contribution towards our admin and logistics costs, meaning we could supply over five times the amount raised in retail value of food.

Lincoln Minster School

The wonderful pupils at Lincoln Minster School raised funds and collected items specifically requested by Ukrainian Churches and Aid Agencies in support of His Church’s Ukraine Crisis Relief Project “Operation Manna 22”. Lincolnshire boasted about 50 military airfields in WWII and is known as “Bomber County” indeed our current home, the former RAF Binbrook site, was one of the airfields used in Operation Manna, so to have local schools and even local military bases supporting this project is amazing.

Hospitals

Leeds Childrens Heart Surgery Fund

In partnership with Chevin Lodge, Otley and the Children’s Heart Surgery Fund CHSF, His Church regularly provide pallets containing food, clothing and essential supplies for parents of children who are being treated at Leeds Congenital Heart Unit. Families of children needing congenital heart disease treatment are often rushed from distance to accommodation at the hospital without essential provision at a particularly anxious time. One of the parents who received a welcome pack made by the CHSF from items donated by His Church said:

"When our 6 weeks old baby was rushed back under emergency conditions to Leeds we found ourselves without the basic essentials. When Sarah from the Children’s Heart Surgery Fund came to see us and gave us a bag of toiletries it really meant a lot. Self-care is important in these situations and is often the last thing on your mind. The fluffy socks and tasty snacks made us smile and brought us some home comforts and much needed nourishment. The support from Children’s Heart Surgery Fund and the thoughtfulness and generosity of His Church’s donations really made a positive difference to us during a difficult time"

Breast Cancer Support

In partnership with Future Dreams, Breast Cancer Support Charity, His Church provide pallets with items for food hamper and pamper packs for breast cancer patients, these pallets contain essential food items but also some lovely luxurious treats such as Lindt Chocolates and L’Oreal personal care and beauty products. Sam Landesberg COO at Future Dreams said:

"Honestly, I can’t even explain how grateful we are for these amazing products which are going to put smiles on patient's faces, which also means the world to the doctors and nurses who are looking after them. The patients have told us that knowing someone cares and is thinking about you at such a traumatic time makes all the difference in the world!"

Local Councils

His Church’s support of Local Councils expanded greatly during Covid, when a large number of Councils requested food to supply their community outreach projects. These projects were tasked with ensuring that constituents made vulnerable by the pandemic had access to food during lockdown. In response to the current cost-of-living crisis, many Councils have continued partnering with His Church to support the local charities within their borough, providing food and supplies to vulnerable members of the community.

London Borough of Tower Hamlets

Tower Hamlets Council’s support of the most vulnerable members of the borough is nothing short of outstanding.

Since the inception of our partnership in 2021, His Church have provided over 2.29 million meals to Tower Hamlets residents experiencing food insecurity through a network of over 70 Tower Hamlets organisations helping vulnerable people including foodbanks, local pantries, family centres, homeless outreaches, churches, mosques, schools and hospitals.

London Borough of Camden

In partnership with Arsenal Football Club, His Church distributed over 500,000 meals to residents in Islington, Camden & Hackney during Covid.

Camden Council continued the partnership after the pandemic by supporting local charities Co-operation Town, JW3 Centre and Castlehaven with regular donations of food and supplies provided by His Church.

In 2022, our partnership ensured that over 79,000 meals were distributed to support Camden residents who had been made vulnerable by the steep increase in the cost of living that year.

Homelessness Outreach

Over 270,000 people are recorded as homeless in the UK including 123,000 children, a figure that has risen by 26% in 2023, due to the sharp increases in the cost of living. Homeless people are amongst the most vulnerable in society and supporting them is fundamental in the expression of our faith.

His Church partners with a number of organisations who provide direct help to people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.
